Record-setting Thousand Oaks sailor seeking new challenge

Zac Sunderland the youngest person ever to sail alone around the world is considering to participate in new ground breaking adventures.



One possibility: a deal with MTV to motorbike from California down to the tip of South America. The cable television music network would pay for the journey and videotape it, Sunderland said, providing viewers with a close-up look at what it’s like to ride thousand of miles across two continents on badly rutted dirt roads.

Or he might take a boat with a video crew even farther south to the edges of Antarctica, following Irish explorer Ernest Shackleton’s expedition nearly 100 years ago, he said.

Once there, Sunderland and crew would await the long and bitter Antarctic winter, allowing their boat to be surrounded and eventually frozen in by huge sheets of ice, he said.
